How the award was created
In 2002, TCU’s Staff Assembly, the campus governance organization for all non-faculty TCU employees, sought a way to recognize exemplary service of University staff. A special committee was formed which subsequently recommended to Chancellor Michael R. Ferrari that a Chancellor’s Staff Award be created to be given annually to a staff member by the Chancellor. The first recipient, Rev. John Butler, then Minister to the University, was presented the award in August, 2003 at the opening faculty and staff luncheon on the TCU campus.
Award nomination process
Nominations for the Chancellor’s Staff Award may be made by anyone in the campus community through an online nomination process. Once all nominations have been received, each Vice Chancellor of the University, the President of Brite Divinity School, and the TCU Athletics Director choose a division winner. The Chancellor then makes his selection from the division winners. His choice remains a secret until the annual opening luncheon held each August at the start of the fall semester during which the seven nominees are honored and the winner is announced.
